2 Officers Rushed To Hospital After Being Exposed To Possible Heroin

CHERRY HILL (CBS) -- Two law enforcement officers were rushed to the hospital after being exposed to possible heroin inside a Cherry Hill residence.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Cherry Hill police received a phone call about a possible overdose at the 200 block of Heritage Road. Two detectives, one from Cherry Hill police and one from Camden County Prosecutor's Office, entered the home and found a woman dead from an apparent overdose.

The two detectives were exposed to an unknown substance. A source tells CBS3 it's likely a form of heroin in the home.

Both were taken to Cooper University Hospital but have since been released.

"I've been here since the mid-90s and this is totally out of character for this neighborhood," said David Thorn.

Thorn and other neighbors watched the bizarre scene unfold.

"It's kind of scary and it's about the last thing that you want to know about in your neighborhood and hopefully this is an isolated incident," said Thorn.

Crews stayed on the scene for several hours. Authorities are not releasing the name of the officers or woman who died inside her home.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement that this was an isolated incident.

Authorities say residents in the area are not in danger.
