Police Investigating Beating Death Of Woman In Port Richmond

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police may have an important clue that could help them solve the beating death of a woman inside her Port Richmond home.

Police say a 57-year-old woman was found unresponsive, lying face down in a pool of blood by a family member in the living room of her home in the 3200 block of Mercer Street around 4 p.m. Friday.

Authorities say the victim had suffered "obvious" blunt force trauma to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the second floor of the home had been ransacked and some electronics and other items were reportedly missing.

Investigators did not find a weapon at the scene but they were hoping that neighbors could help lead them to the killer.

"It's a very tight street and there are cameras on both sides of the street," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "Hopefully these cameras captured either someone entering or exiting the property."

Police say it does appear that there was any forced entry. They were working to determine if the victim knew her killer.

So far there have been no arrests.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
