Officials: Water Shoots From Fire Connection On Construction Site In Manayunk

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Just after 3:00 p.m., crews were on the scene of what was originally believed to be a water main break in Manayunk. Fire officials say there were initial reports of a heavy flow of water and a strong odor of gas by residents in the area.

Later in the evening, water department officials said that it was not a water main break, but actually a fire connection to a building that is no longer standing. Water shot out from the connection on the 3800 block of Terrace Street near Sharp Street.

The incident took place on a construction site in the area.

PGW, The Philadelphia Water Department and several salt truck were on the scene. PGW officials say no homes or gas equipment were impacted.

No other homes were affected.
