NJ Firefighter Making $78K Loses 2 Jobs After Shoplifting $7.98 From Wawa

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (CBS)—A former Margate firefighter and lifeguard will be forced to give up both of his jobs after he was caught stealing $7.98 worth of items from Wawa last year.

Ashton G. Funk, 34, of Northfield was charged last September when police say he left a Wawa without paying.

At the time of the crime, Funk was employed by the Margate City Firefighter Department and the Margate City Beach Patrol

On December 15, 2015 a judge found Funk guilty of the shoplifting charge and later that year, he was order to leave both of his jobs as a result of his conviction for an offense of dishonesty.

Funk appealed the decision to Superior Court.

On December 14, 2016 Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury Jr. said Funk "shall immediately forfeit his positions of employment with Margate City.

Funk was making $78,096 a year with the Margate City Fire Department.
