Drexel University Alumni Continue Holiday Turkey Tradition
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In the spirit of giving this holiday season, Drexel University Alumni continued a 43-year tradition, benefiting families in surrounding neighborhoods.
A tractor-trailer filled with 1,350 frozen turkeys pulled up to the Paul Peck Alumni Center, on Drexel's campus.
Students, staff and alumni shuffled 30 birds into each waiting car, representing a non-profit in the area, each one then driving off to distribute to those most in need.
"This is another element of the way we try to help the community, by providing food to organizations that give out food to families in need," said Tony Noche is Chair of Drexel's Alumni Board of Governors.
Anna Grant-Borden is a Pastor Lombard Central Presbyterian and runs a soup kitchen twice a week.
"Most of the people don't have the means or the resources for food, and so they come out to eat, and this for them, means an opportunity for them to have a turkey to prepare for their Christmas dinners," she said.
The alumni raised a total of $35,000 to buy the birds.
