PA Republicans Reflect On Trump Victory

by Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One of the highest-profile Republicans in Pennsylvania visited GOP headquarters along Cottman Avenue, in Northeast Philadelphia, to reflect on the Donald Trump win.

When Pennsylvania, one of several traditionally blue states, went for Donald Trump last month, it was because of a well-executed strategy, according to Pennsylvania Republican Party chairman Rob Gleason.

"Together, Donald Trump and Mike Pence made more than 30 visits to the Keystone State, with the Trump children and Trump surrogates making dozens more," Gleason said.

He says they registered nearly 320,000 new Republicans since last year's election, "and more than 110,000 were democrats who chose to join the party of Donald Trump."

Gleason says Trump stayed on point.

"Voters believed in his message of more jobs, fewer taxes, and a better health system for all," he said.

Up until this year, Pennsylvania voted Democratic in the last six presidential elections.

"Finally, Pennsylvania will be considered a red state," said Gleason.

The General Counsel of the State Republican Party, Lawrence Tabas, who handled the Jill Stein recount litigation, also pointed out that several traditionally "blue counties" that voted for President Obama: Berks, Northampton, Luzerne and Erie, all flipped and voted for Mr. Trump.
