Giordano: Johnny Doc Breaks Down Democrats' Election Failures

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Johnny Doc is a great Philadelphia character and union leader that I have jousted with over the years but have always had a good rapport with in personal meetings.

I guess with that history it shouldn't be a surprise that his guy tracked me down last week to make sure I got the recent letter he sent to his union members.

The letter is remarkable, and I'm surprised that local media have not talked about it.

Dougherty makes the case that he and his union performed remarkably to get Hillary Clinton elected. He takes great pride in reminding people that his union had the biggest "Vote Hillary" banner in captivity.

He then pivoted to say, "And understand this point: The Democratic party has become almost solely based on cultural liberalism. I get it. I have a wife who underwent cranial surgery using stem cell-like technology. My one daughter is gay and I adopted a second daughter who lost both parents to opioid abuse. Their issues matter more to me than anything. I understand the value of cultural liberalism, but if the Democratic Party and the national labor movement don't get back to focusing on class issues, the unionized labor movement will soon be extinct."

Later in his letter, Doc again attacks the Democrats' focus on identity politics and details how it can't continue.

I predict it will continue, and a large part of me is fine with that. The more Nancy Pelosi is the face of the party, the more we will defeat them in elections.

Stay tuned to all of this, because Johnny Doc has agreed to return to my show to discuss these issues.

It will be interesting to see if local Democrats rally around him. You will hear him with me and take satisfaction in the fact that union members are open to joining us.
