Bucks County Issues First 'Code Blue' Of Season With Frigid Air Moving In

BUCKS COUNTY , Pa. (CBS) -- Bucks County is issuing its first "Code Blue" weather declaration of the season.

The "Code Blue" goes into effect at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, and lasts until 7 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The Bucks County Emergency Management Agency has notified December on-call churches – Emmaus Rod Lutheran Church in Levittown, Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church and Quakertown Masonic Lodge -- to activate their emergency shelters.

The church's on-call volunteers will coordinate transportation, temporary shelter, food and other necessities.

The county is also advising residents to check on their elderly neighbors and take caution with their pets during extremely cold temperatures.

The area is expected to see highs in the 20s on Thursday and Friday.
