Man Charged After Allegedly Telling Passerby He Killed His Mother

LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. (CBS) -- A mother was found dead inside of her Bucks County home and police say her son is the killer.

Rebecca Cope, 52, was found dead Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to a 911 call after they say Rebecca Cope's son, Zachary, told a passerby he had killed his mother.

Authorities say Zachary Cope was described as wearing flip flops and shorts, and was walking around the area.

Police located Cope and determined he lived at 23 Lower Hilltop Road in Lower Makefield Township.

Officers went to the location and found his mother dead on the kitchen floor.

Authorities say her official cause of death has not been determined, but it appears the she sustained blunt force trauma to her head and body, and several stab and cut wounds.

"This is not something that ordinarily happens here in this area," Lower Makefield Police Chief Ken Coluzzi told CBS 3's David Spunt, adding that "the crime scene tells you that she was subject to a lot of blunt trauma, a lot of cuts and a lot of stab wounds."

Police say Zachary Cope was charged with criminal homicide and possession of an instrument of crime.

"What prompted this individual to do what he did, to snap the way he did, that's a question that remains unanswered at this point," Coluzzi said.

The investigation is ongoing.
