Local Effort To Help Older Adults Reduce Risk Of Loneliness

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's a growing problem, isolation and loneliness among the aging. An area non-profit is participating in a national program to bring awareness to the issue.

Philadelphia Corporation for Aging or (PCA) is joining forces with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4A) to to help older adults reduce their risk of becoming isolated or lonely.

The program is called "Expand Your Circles."

Information, including resources available to the elderly is getting out there by pamphlets, social media and the Internet.

Holly Lange is the CEO Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, she told KYW Newsradio about the specific programs available to senior citizens.

"Throughout the city we fund 20 senior centers, where anyone over 60 can go free of charge, they have a noon, nice hot lunch , heath education, computer classes, exercise classes."

There are also home care services available.
