Jason Kelce On 'Testy' Council Meeting: 'Not A Big Issue'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Win, lose, or draw, always play hard. That's what athletes are taught from a very young age.

But after the Eagles' 32-14 blowout loss to the struggling Bengals last Sunday, head coach Doug Pederson publicly admitted "not everybody" played hard. Some of the Eagles' leaders took exception to that comment, reportedly leading to a "testy" council meeting.

"I don't know, you'd have to ask certain players that, but I don't think so," Eagles center Jason Kelce told Angelo Cataldi when asked if players were upset with Pederson's comment on Friday's 94WIP Morning Show.

"We're all grown ups at the end of the day and I think you talk to the coach to try and figure out, first of all, who he was talking about. And then second of all, there's a lot of guys that take pride in the way they play the game."

Doug Pederson holds this council meeting once per week, meeting with 13 team leaders: Malcolm Jenkins, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Jason Peters, Jordan Hicks, Carson Wentz, Jordan Matthews, Darren Sproles, Brent Celek, Jason Kelce, Connor Barwin, Chris Maragos, and Jon Dorenbos.

"I certainly don't think this was a drastic thing where everybody was lacking effort and I don't think that it was even as big of an issue as is being portrayed, necessarily," Kelce said of the lack of effort comments following Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

"But when you're losing games like this and you're seeing the season start to go in a bad direction, I think it's a good idea for the head coach to put an emphasis on guys evaluating themselves and effort level and making sure that you're playing at the same intensity."
