Calls On A Plane? Dept. Of Transportation Considering Letting People Make Calls During Flights

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Talking on the phone? Good idea or bad idea? The Department of Transportation wants to know your thoughts before they implement a policy which would allow mile-high phone conversations.

Over the next 60 days, the Department of Transportation will be gathering public opinion on the subject. We didn't need 60 days.

Travelers at Philly International already voicing their opinions, and if it were up to most of the people I met, the idea would never get off the ground.

"I just think some people are very annoying when they talk on their cell phones, talk very loud."

"Some people, like myself, want to get rest. I just came in on a red eye. I don't want to hear someone's conversation about what they're about to have for dinner or what they need to do tomorrow or how they're mad at their kid."

They say texts and emails should hold anybody over until the plane has landed.

Dorinda from Boulder, Colorado says this is a free country and we should be teaching people manners, not restricting their rights.

"That's why you gotta start them in kindergarten and teach them phone etiquette."
