Sharing The Road: How Cyclists & Drivers Can Learn To Get Along
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Both cyclists and drivers in Philadelphia have to navigate through more traffic, and peacefully co-exist.
Drivers say they tend to feel cyclists don't follow the rules of the road, while cyclists say drivers are aggressive.

"A lot of cyclists feel they are not are visible enough when they are in traffic on the street," said Randy LoBasso with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.
LoBasso says those on bicycles have to dodge cars and trucks loading and unloading, in bike lanes.
"That often creates an obstacle for the bicyclist who may often have to dart out into the street, which creates a very unsafe space for that cyclist," explained LoBasso.

He suggests the city add more bike lanes, and that law enforcement crack down on ticketing in loading zones.
However, given driver frustrations, he does say cyclists need to comply with the law, and not skirt traffic.
"Cyclists do need to understand, they are a legal vehicle, just like motor vehicles are," said LoBasso.
"It's kind of a learning curve, with the bikers being in traffic, and cars adapting to more bikes being in traffic," said Captain Patrick Kelly of the Accident Investigation Division. "The most important thing is awareness on both parties"
