Main Line School Puts On Performance To Honor Fallen Alum

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Main Line school for children with learning disabilities stages a performance with a purpose on Friday night.

It's called Art Soup: performances by the house band, singers, and poetry readings by students of the Hill Top Prep School in Rosemont.

The event is at the School of Rock in Berwyn.

"They practice in a room here at Hilltop. But the venue itself has professional lighting, professional sound. So just the whole thing really comes to life," says Marion Kassab, Hill Top's head of the visual and performing arts department.

She says money raised will go toward converting a garage on campus to a design studio in memory of alum J.R. Porter, killed in a car accident three years ago at the age of 28.

"People have been contributing to it, and we decided in coordinating with his parents that we wanted to do something a little more lasting in his memory," said Kassab.

Art Soup begins at 6:30 p.m.
