Campbell's, Salvation Army Join Forces For Camden Holiday Dinner

by Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two local organizations team up to host a holiday dinner for more than 300 residents in Camden.

On Wednesday night Campbell's Soup Company and The Salvation Army in Camden gave neighbors a chance to take part in a community holiday dinner that featured roast turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, baked ziti, and a slew of other entrees.

"We cook dinner for 350 residents and it's awesome. You can see all the kids and families. We're nourishing our neighbors. We just want to give back to the community," said Richard Calladonato is the executive chef of the Campbell's Culinary and Baking Institute.

Major Susan Wood with the Salvation Army says they've been doing this event for the last three years, and each time it grows larger.

"And that's really what makes me happy and that's really what, to me, represents the season," she said.

Neighbors attending the dinner say it's impossible to not leave with the holiday spirit.

"It's beautiful, you have all the community here, beautiful tree, nice food, everybody is happy. Everybody is blessed to be here for Christmas," said one attendee.

"It's really nice, professional, really great," said another.

After the dinner, workers from Campbell's took 75 meals to shut-ins around Camden.
