New Ethics Committee In Place At DRPA

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) --  The Delaware River Port Authority has voted to create a new committee to enforce ethics reforms within the bi-state agency.

The DRPA has undertaken a series of measures to increase transparency and focus exclusively on its core mission of operating 4 bridges and the PATCO line. Agency CEO John Hanson says the ethics policy was expanded earlier this year.

"One of the components of that ethics policy is the formation of an ethics committee that will oversee and review any discipline that the CEO meets out under the policy," Hanson told KYW Newsradio, "and also recommends revisions to the ethics policy."

Not that they'll meet all that often. It's under the agency's audit committee and is required to hold at least one session a year. It'll include the two top audit committee members, along with the agency's General Counsel and Inspector General.

This came as the agency also approved its 296 million dollar operating budget for next year.

"We've announced previously that we would not consider a toll increase prior to 2020 and this budget ensures that we're not going to go back on our word," Hanson added.

Spending is up almost 2%, mostly to cover increases in personnel costs.
