Fletcher Cox: Hearing About Lack Of Effort 'Wowed' Me

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There's a perception going around that the Eagles did not give 100-percent effort for Sunday's game.

After all, they were smoked 32-14 by a 3-7-1 Cincinnati Bengals team and even head coach Doug Pederson acknowledged that not everyone played hard.

On Monday's 94WIP Players' Lounge Show (every day-after-the-Eagles game at 6:00 p.m. with Ike Reese, Gary Cobb, and Fletcher Cox), Ike Reese asked defensive lineman Fletcher Cox about hearing those "lack of effort" comments coming from people, like Pederson, within the organization.

"That's one of the things that we talked about, sticking together," Cox said. "And not calling anyone out, not separating yourself. Just sticking together as a team and as an organization and then when I heard that, it kinda wowed me. That's not stuff that we do or things that we talk about it, but obviously somebody felt that way and they're going to say how they feel."

The Eagles trailed 29-0 before scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns on Sunday. Cox doesn't believe anyone quit.

"I think in no point in that game did nobody give up," said Cox. "Nobody said, 'Hey we're checking out.' Because you can tell at the end of the game we was creating turnovers and trying to put our offense to score to get us back into the football game."

Cox, who is expected to be the Eagles' best defensive player, has not recorded a sack in eight games and has become a subject of criticism among the fans and media.

"Every once in awhile Fletcher Cox does not empty his lunch box," Vermeil said. "I've watched it. He'll take a snap off from time to time. I've seen that. A lot of players do, there are a very few that don't take a little breather. But I've seen him miss opportunities if he'd been going just a little harder and he had the ability to go a little harder he could have made the play, but not many. Not many."
