Weekend Box Office: Animation Rules Again
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The animated attraction, Moana, made it two weeks in a row in first place by earning an estimated $28-million on its second weekend of release.
Second place belonged to the fantasy holdover, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which took in $19-million.
In third was the science fiction thriller, Arrival, with just over $7-million. Fourth went to the World War II thriller, Allied. It earned $7-million.
And rounding out the top five, all holdovers, was the comic book-inspired fantasy, Doctor Strange, with $6-million.
On the traditionally slow post-Thanksgiving movie weekend, industry-wide totals were only about half of those of last weekend, but only slightly below those of a year ago.
