Positively Philadelphia: Drone Dancing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dancers and drones are not something that usually go together, but beginning this Wednesday, they will at a Parsons Dance world premiere at Philadelphia's Prince Theater.

"There's going to be six drones that have been created by the ExCITe Center at Drexel University over the last two years that are gonna be not only flying, but literally dancing with the company," says Randy Swartz

He is the artistic director of NextMove Dance, the dance presenter.

"They have reformulated the propeller blades to be lighter, faster, and more versatile than drones out of a box," he says, "and to program them so that they would interact with the dancers without crashing into them or crashing into each other."

And he says special lighting is featured:

"They'll have lights on too, so they can be part of the whole effect. The whole lighting is going to be done by Howell Binkley, and Howell Binkley's last major project was a little Broadway show called 'Hamilton.'"
