Freedom Medal Nominees Sought In Camden County

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - Know someone in Camden County whose volunteer efforts go above and beyond the norm?

You can nominate them for a special recognition next month. But you only have a week to get the nomination in.

The county has handed out the Freedom Medal for the past 16 years, according to Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli:

"We like to recognize the residents of our community who embody the characteristics of Martin Luther King , serve the community selflessly, put the community first," Cappelli told KYW Newsradio. "We have many people like that in Camden County."

To put someone's name in the running, you need to write a 300 word essay extolling their volunteer efforts -- nothing in a paid position. And that essay must be attached to a form available here.

You may also mail in a nomination to…

Division of Special Events
1301 Park Boulevard
Cherry Hill, NJ 08002

Nominations must be in by the 12th, with the winners announced a week later and the medals handed out in January.
