Teacher Suspended After Allegedly Telling Students To 'Stop Complaining About Being Black'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- A Cheltenham High School teacher has been suspended for making what the school board calls "racially insensitive" remarks.

Officials say the teacher was discussing the impact of Donald Trump's election on the Black Lives Matter movement when she allegedly told students to stop complaining about being black.

One student reportedly left the classroom in tears. Others sought out school administrators to complain about the teacher's remarks.

The Cheltenham school board Wednesday issued a statement saying the teacher had been suspended, pending further investigation.

The statement did not provide more information about the incident, saying it was a personnel matter.

The board says counseling has been provided to students, as well as what it calls a safe space in which to discuss their concerns.
