Philadelphia Ranked 6th Best Sports City In America

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Number six? We'll take it.

According to a new study done by Wallethub.com, Philadelphia is the sixth best sports city in America and the ninth best football city.

The top five overall best sports cities, ahead of Philly, are: New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

The study measured 423 cities across more than 50 key metrics related to the five largest sports in the U.S. -- football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer. The metrics include the performance of the city's teams, average ticket prices, and number of sports bars, among other things.

There was a weight assigned to each of the five sports based on the percentage of adults who claim to follow that particular sport. Football had the highest weight at 49-percent, followed by basketball, baseball, hockey, and soccer.

Philadelphia came in 9th for football, 15th for basketball, 20th for baseball, 12th for hockey, and 17th for soccer.
