Slippery Court Surface Causes Postponement Of Sixers Game vs. Kings

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Sixers game against the Kings scheduled for Wednesday night was postponed. The team announced the decision just after 8:00 p.m. and no make-up date was announced.

A slippery substance threatened the start of the game. The two teams were scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center, but wet spots on the floor delayed the start of the game.

The news of the delay was announced to fans in the arena as 7:00 p.m. came and went. The Sixers released a statement regarding the incident:

"The Philadelphia 76ers game tonight against the Sacramento Kings has been delayed due to an issue regarding the surface of the court. Arena officials are currently working on the surface to ensure that it is suitable for play tonight and that player safety is paramount."

A crew took to the floor with mops in an effort to dry the court in time for the start of the game, but they were unsuccessful in doing so.

The referees for the game examined the court, but there was a substance on the floor that made the surface too slippery for the players to play on safely.

The Sixers announced that the tickets for the game would be honored once a make-up date is announced, as will parking. Fans who had tickets will also have a chance to receive complimentary tickets to a game on December 5 vs. Denver, December 14 vs. Toronto or December 18 vs. Brooklyn.

After Kings star DeMarcus Cousins tried to clean up the floor himself, the Kings decided to take a jab at the Sixers, making reference to "The Process."

Sixers officials were in contact with league officials as they worked to solve the issue.
