Local Girls Flag Football Team Reaches National Championship

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pink Dynamite will represent the Philadelphia area in the girls NFL Flag Football national championship

These nine girls are from Bucks County, ages 13 to 15 years old, are facing an opportunity of a lifetime.

After winning the regional tournament championship, these feisty girls have the opportunity to compete for the national championship on January 27th, 2017 in Orlando, Florida.

The girls, who play for the Lower Bucks Flag Football Association, formed the Pink Dynamite team to compete in the NFL sponsored National Flag Football League. The NFL hosts eight regional flag football tournaments (boys, girls, and coed), with a different professional team as the sponsor of each one.

The Pink Dynamite, named after league chair and breast cancer survivor Debbie Karantinali, won the regional tournament hosted by the New York Jets in overtime on November 19th at Florham Park, NJ.

The girls are coached by Dave Kane, a shop manager at a furniture warehouse from Levittown, and Eddie Yedman. Kane is a father of three, including his daughter Emily who plays on the team. Yedman, a father of two, coaches his daughter Jennifer.

"I love coaching because I love giving back and I hope I am making a difference in the kids' lives," Kane told CBSPhilly.com.

"He is an amazing coach that has helped my daughter since she started playing three years ago," Amber Lyn Seals, whose daughter plays for the Pink Dynamite, told CBSPhilly.com of Kane. "[My daughter] is dyslexic and had trouble following the plays if the coach "wrote" them on their hand with their finger. The moment he learned of her difficulties he adapted his coaching style and helped her to become a stronger player with a love for the game. He is truly someone amazing who motivates the team and cares for every player!"

You can donate to the Pink Dynamite and help the girls get to Orlando here.
