Entrepreneur Conference Focuses On Networking With Venture Capital Community

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A two day conference is underway in Philadelphia that hooks up entrepreneurs with the venture capital community, looking to grow through disruptive technology.

Looking at overarching trends, Sean Denham of Grant Thornton, the global accounting firm, said software breakthroughs are already disrupting traditional industries.

"There are probably two companies that come to mind, Uber and Airbnb," Denham said.

He said Uber is just a software tool.

"They don't own any cars, but it's the largest taxi company in the world."

Airbnb doesn't own any properties.

"But it's now the largest hotel company in the world," he said.

Tom Doll, the president and Chief Operating Officer of the Cherry Hill based Subaru America, said the next big thing in his field will be autonomous driving vehicles.

"You can see what's happening currently, when you look at the different driver assist type technologies."

Subaru's system is called "EyeSight," which uses forward facing stereo cameras that warn of an issue ahead.

"You have 'Lane Keep Assist, Pre Collision Breaking,' those are the fundamentals, and the starting point for the autonomous driving vehicle."

Doll said those current features will lead to a new self-driving era for the industry.
