Center City Explosion Victim Overwhelmed By 'Outpouring Of Love And Support'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Jim Alden was injured in a Center City explosion on November 22, which is still under investigation. He continues to recover from the ordeal and on Tuesday night, he released a statement via the YouCaring.com page setup to help him.

Alden, 60, suffered shrapnel wounds when a package that he received exploded in his kitchen upon him opening it.

As the investigation into the incident continues, it is still unclear who planted the explosive.

"One week later, I'm happy to be resting at home and feeling a little bit better. My life changed on that day, and I still face more surgeries to deal with the significant damage to my left hand," Alden's statement read.

What I want to say at this point is how overwhelmed I have been at the outpouring of love and support that I've received from my partner, family, friends, and coworkers.

To date, over $16,300 has been raised on the page and the original goal was set at $25,000.

Alden's statement said that the funds raised would help to offset medical expenses and the potential of wages lost as he is unable to work due to the injuries he has suffered.

"As I go forward in my recovery I know I will continue to rely on the loving care of my partner and friends, and I appreciate everyone's concern and compassion," Alden wrote.
