A Giving Tuesday Donation That Helps Local Homeless Pets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tuesday is 'Giving Tuesday,' kicking off the charitable season around the world. One donor will double the public's donation on Tuesday, pledged to a program providing medical care to homeless animals in Philadelphia.

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia or ACCT Philly has a program called the Stella Fund, named after a beloved cat it cared for. The fund provides simple surgeries or treatments for homeless animals.

Ame Dorminy is a spokeswoman for the Animal Care and control service provider.

"Something simple like an eye infection can make that animal be at risk for euthanasia," she said. "So having money to be able to perform an eye enucleation and remove that eye that makes that pet a healthy adoptable pet."

And she said it lessens the risk of the animal being put down.

An anonymous donor will match donations up to $10,000 for the Stella Fund on Giving Tuesday.
