Tens Of Thousands Take To Skies To Get Out Of Town For Thanksgiving

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- AAA is estimating 50,000 Philadelphia area residents are flying for the holiday weekend.

Wednesday morning, there was an early morning rush at Terminal E at Philadelphia International Airport.

"Well, it's a little hectic because (we) had to get up at 1:45 in the morning to get here."

But the lines kept moving along for folks looking to getaway.

To places like Florida.

"Looking forward to the 81-degree weather."

Or maybe out of the country.

"We're going to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic."

Elana from Richboro, was all smiles with the long-awaited family holiday trip to Punta Cana finally here. Escaping the cold and, for Thanksgiving, free from the kitchen.

"We're not cooking, yes, that's one of the top five reasons that we're going."

But that doesn't mean the big turkey dinner is off the table.

"All the resorts pretty much do the traditional Thanksgiving so they'll have all that. So, we're looking forward to it."

CBS 3's Justin Drabick reports that 3.7 million Americans are expected to travel this holiday weekend.

It's been smooth-sailing out of the Philadelphia International Airport as there have been no major delays or cancellations.

"We arrived three hours early in preparation for the long lines that are not here," said Kristen from Philadelphia.
