Emaciated Dog Dumped In Trash Bag At Philly Park Recovering At Shelter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania SPCA is asking for the public's help finding the person responsible for dumping an emaciated dog in a trash bag at a Philadelphia park.
PSPCA officials say the dog was found by a good Samaritan who came upon a black garbage bag at Wissahickon Valley Park Tuesday morning while walking her own dog. As they got closer to the bag, the dog's head became more visible. The woman called the PSPCA's Humane Law Enforcement team who retrieved the dog and brought the animal to the shelter hospital to receive proper medical care.
According to the PSPCA, the dog, who they named "Cranberry" for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, arrived at the shelter emaciated and is now listed in "guarded condition."
"In these cases, it's the first 48 hours, first few days that are the most important to ensure that the animal survives," said Nicole Wilson, Director of PSPCA's Humane Law Enforcement. "Our goal is to make sure that not only does the animal survive but that we find who's responsible for this horrific act of cruelty."
Anyone with more information leading to the individual or individuals responsible for dumping "Cranberry" is being asked to call the organization's cruelty hotline at 866-601-7722.
