Road Closures Announced For Philly's Tree Lighting Celebration

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Saturday, the Philly Holiday Tree Lightning Celebration will take place, ringing in the holiday season.

In addition to some holiday cheer, the celebration will bring some road closures to Center City Philadelphia.

The lighting is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and it is set to wrap up with Mayor Jim Kenney around 5:30 p.m.

Officials are urging drivers to expect delays near City Hall and to consider finding alternate routes to get around.

15th Street, between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Market Street will be closed to traffic starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Any vehicle parked in an unauthorized spot will be towed beginning at 11:00 a.m. Roads will be marked with no-parking signs.

Market Street will be staying open, but it will be reduced down to two lanes.

The areas impacted by closures are set to reopen at 7:30 p.m.

Drivers are reminded to avoid these areas, allow for extra time due to congestion, and drive carefully near the event.
