Penn Hoops Visits CCSU Tonight

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The University of Pennsylvania basketball team will be on the road tonight, visiting Central Connecticut State.

The Quakers are off to a 1-1 start. They opened with a 67-50 win on the road against Robert Morris and then lost their last game on the road to Miami (FL), 74-62.

"I think the team has shown promise," Penn head coach Steve Donahue tells KYW Newsradio. "I've been very impressed with our defense. We've mixed it up quite a bit. We have a couple new faces, young bodies, but right now I'm pleased with our progress."

Listen to the entire interview with Penn head coach Steve Donahue:

One of the new faces is freshman A.J. Brodeur. A 6'8" forward, Brodeur has been very good for the Quakers here in the early going, averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds a game while shooting 64% from the field.

"He's an incredible competitor," Donahue says. "Runs rim to rim, great motor, skilled with both hands, offensive rebounds and he's probably our best defender. Just does all those things. Obviously he's got a ways to go because he's young and he'll improve, but it's been great to see so far."

The Quakers tonight will be taking on a Central Connecticut State team that is off to a 1-3 start.

"It's a new coach in Donyell Marshall," Donahue says. "Team plays with a lot of energy, they won their only home game so far (over Hartford)."

Donahue talks about keys for his squad against the Blue Devils.

"We're going to have to guard them, keep them off the glass, keep them out of transition," he says. "But it's a team that I think, if you allow them, they can get to the rim and get to the foul line. We want to make sure we don't allow them to do that."

Penn and Central Connecticut State get underway tonight at 7:00pm in New Britain.
