The Millville Fire Department attempted to reach the man and that dog around 9:00 a.m., but their boats were not capable of navigating the marshy region. The Coast Guard was notified and a rescue helicopter crew was sent out from Air Station Atlantic City.

The helicopter crew was able to hoist the man and his dog to safety around 10:50 a.m. The following word of advice was shared after this morning's rescue by Petty Officer 3rd Class, Julie Saternis:

"The Coast Guard recommends duck hunters and boaters always carry a marine band radio, or communication device. Having an ability to quickly notify first responders of trouble is a must-have for safety on the water."
