Post Snap With Malcolm Jenkins: 'We Have To Show Up In Seattle'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Nine games into this season, nothing the Eagles are doing has come as a major surprise to Malcolm Jenkins. The veteran safety and team leader expected the Eagles to be competitive. The revelation are the mistakes this team is making. And it's coupled with something else—Jenkins stresses—the Eagles are a team that can play with anyone in the NFL.

That will be tested this coming Sunday when the Eagles travel to 6-2-1 Seattle, where Jenkins has never won a game during his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints and Eagles.

Jenkins was exceptional in the Eagles' 24-15 victory on Sunday over Atlanta, which entered the game averaging an NFL-high 33.9 points a game and the Eagles held them to a touchdown.

"The biggest thing is we didn't kill ourselves (against Atlanta)," Jenkins said. "Whenever we don't kill ourselves, we usually dominate. I saw the potential of this team back in the spring. Look at this team, there's nothing spectacular about us. But if you put us all together, collectively we're good football team. When we play with discipline, we can compete and play longer with most people. I've never won in Seattle during my career.

"They're coming off a big win. We're coming off a big win. Their defense is playing well, our defense is playing well. They're a well-coached, disciplined team that's hard to beat at home. I think we're more than capable of winning in Seattle; we have to show up. I have a lot of respect for Seattle. But we're capable of winning the game. We have to understand how to win, and what wins in this league. I think we're still in that process. We have a lot of new faces on this team, and we're still working out that formula. Every game, we're learning more about ourselves. We're still working through that, but at this point in the season, it's a lot more defined, where everyone knows what wins for us and what loses."

Jenkins feels last Sunday was the template the Eagles have to use to continue winning. That's running the ball, playing sound defense and exceptional special teams play.

"We have the players that can do it, we have a team full of competitive guys that care," Jenkins said. "I keep telling people we're a good football team. When we stop killing ourselves we're going to be okay."
