Expect A Lot Of Company On Roads If Traveling For Thanksgiving

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Get ready, get set, but before you go, you may want to consider off-peak travel times this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

AAA Mid-Atlantic projects the roads will be the busiest in nine years.

AAA estimates more than half a million of Philadelphia area residents will travel 50-miles or more for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Volume is expected to be up about 1 percent in the Philadelphia five county area, up about 2 percent nationally. The highest since Thanksgiving of 2007.

Jana Tidwell with AAA says if motorist are flexible they should consider leaving during off-peak travel times.

"Late in the night Tuesday before Thanksgiving, is considered off peak. Early in the morning that is definitely considered off peak the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. And the morning of Thanksgiving."

Late Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening is when the highest return volume is expected on the highways.
