Report Finds 'Drunkest Cities' In Your State

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You may remember that Atlantic City was ranked "Drunkest City" in New Jersey last year by financial website 24/7 Wall St. But this year's report finds A.C. has been unseated and the new #1 town may surprise you.

Trenton now ranks #1 with 18.2 percent of adults reporting that they drink heavily or binge drink, according to the list. Perhaps more staggering is the fact that 23.6 percent of driving deaths are alcohol related.

The reason Trenton drinks more than the state's average may be linked to how much residents make per year. 24/7 cites data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that finds alcohol consumption is more likely among households earning $75,000 annually which isn't too far off from Trenton's median household income of $72,417.

Pennsylvania's "Drunkest City" probably won't come as a surprise, especially if your familiar with the college drinking scene (hint, hint).

They may be ranked #12 in football, but State College is #1 when it comes to alcohol consumption, according to the report.

24/7 finds that the percentage of adults who drink in excess is the highest of any other state's metro area. But the good news is that it doesn't appear to affect residents' health too much -- according to 24/7, a less percentage of residents report they are in poor health than other Pennsylvanians report.

Dover, Del. is leading the Delaware Valley for the percentage of alcohol-related driving deaths at 46.5 percent.

But as 24/7 explains the town more or less won the title of "Drunkest City" by default since it's the only metro area in the state. Only 15.3 percent of Dover's adult residents say that they binge or drink heavily which is less than what adults in other parts of the state report.
