Weekend Brings Perfect Opportunity To Decompress After Contentious Election

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Regardless of how you voted or how you feel about the outcome most agree election week has been intense.

"You hear about the riots going on coast to coast," said Matt Fischer of Woodbridge, Connecticut. Becca Genyk of Fairmount adds, "A lot of stress came with what may happen or what may not happen."

"It was just a lot of different emotions people were feeling. Myself included," admitted Marisa Henry of Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

"It's been a divisive few months," said Kristine Seitz, a Staff Therapist at the Council for Relationships. She says this weekend will allow many of us to decompress in our own way.

If you're more of a social person…

"I think people really thrive on emotional and physical connection, so that could be sharing a meal with someone and just being with people and not feeling alone," explained Seitz.

If you're an introvert, Seitz suggests reading a book, going for a walk, even watching mindless TV. For Marisa Henry of Mount Laurel, it's Saturday's Rocky Run.

"It's perfect timing with everything going on. I signed up for it this week." And from signing up to signing off… some may consider taking a break from social media.

"Disconnecting from that and taking care of yourself first. And then trying to figure out how to connect with people who you may have a difference of opinion with, but who you still love," explained Seitz.

Speaking of love… Seitz says it's always a good time to be kind.

"Anything you can do to help anybody else out. Those random acts of kindness are definitely a good thing."
