From Poland To 94WIP, This Man Is A Philly Sports Gem

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- He's not as popular as Shaun Young, as witty as John The Sign Man, or as boisterous as Shirley.

But make no mistake about it, Andrzej Lukaszewicz deserves to be in the pantheon of Eagles fans.

It all began during the Allen Iverson era, when Lukaszewicz fell in love with Philadelphia sports. Now, Lukaszewicz -- a 40-year-old owner of two Polish sports media companies -- travels from Poland to America twice a year.

"I promised myself to come to U.S. two times a year," Lukaszewicz told CBSPhilly.com. "I go to Miami for warm weather in February and here to Philly in November for my birthday."

Lukaszewicz, who turned 40 this week, has become an avid fan of SportsRadio 94WIP. He listens to the station daily in Poland using the radio.com app, beginning with Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show at noon local time. He even won a behind-the-scenes sit-in appearance with the all new 94WIP Afternoon Show with Ike Reese and Chris Carlin by bidding during the Eagles radiothon. And when 94WIP called to reschedule with Lukaszewicz because of construction going on in the studio, he politely declined.

After all, he was coming from Poland. There was no re-scheduling.

Lukaszewicz showed up to the 94WIP Afternoon Show on Thursday ahead of Sunday's Eagles-Falcons game, which of course he has tickets to with a friend. He even knows about the Philly sports culture.

"We flew into JFK [John F. Kennedy International Airport], we rent a car. Registration was Dallas. I won't drive it," he said seriously. "I tell my friends, they have to drive it."

Maybe most impressively, Lukaszewicz knew everyone at 94WIP, from the staff to the sponsors.

"I like Philly. I like the city, I like the people," he said smiling when asked why he fell in love with Philadelphia. "[I] visit all the places, the places you tell me to go. Chickie's and Pete's and I went to Borgata two days ago to play poker."

Lukaszewicz is divorced and lives with his two boys, ages nine and 13, in Poland. His sons are naturally soccer fans, not football fans, and they get annoyed when their dad watches the Eagles.

"I told my sons they can watch TV any day of the week...except Sunday," Lukaszewicz laughed. "That's game day."
