High School Top 10: North Penn, St. Joe's Prep Appear On A Collision Course

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Football coaches, at any level, never like to talk about what's ahead. Especially way, way ahead. They're a live-in-the-moment lot that have a great ability to tunnel-vision from one step to the next.

So there's no way St. Joseph's Prep coach Gabe Infante nor North Penn coach Dick Beck will—nor should—talk about anything beyond this weekend. Prep has a rematch with LaSalle for the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division championship tonight at Northeast, at 7 p.m., and District 1 top-seed North Penn hosts No. 8 Spring-Ford tonight at 7 p.m.

But anyone that is a high football fan may receive a special treat the first weekend of December, with a strong chance that these two powerhouses will meet each other. Now, obviously, La Salle, Neshaminy, Perkiomen Valley, Downingtown East, Coatesville and Ridley will have something to say about it.

Prep and North Penn are a combined 20-0. They're physically superior to almost every other team in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and have transcendent players, like Prep's Georgia-bound D'Andre Swift, and North Penn has a formidable aerial attack in quarterback Reece Udinski and senior receiver Ricky Johns, a West Virginia commit.

In 4A, Interboro has a chance to be the first team crowned in PIAA's new 6A classification system, when it the No. 1 seed Bucs host No. 2 Pottsgrove for the inaugural District 1 4A title, tonight at 7 p.m.

Imhotep Charter will play Bartram for the Philadelphia Public League 4A title tonight at Northeast High at 12-noon on Saturday.
