North Wildwood Residents Opt To Keep Name
NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. (CBS) - This week's election brought a sort of closure for residents of one Jersey Shore town that addressed an identity crisis at the polls.
Backers of a move to restore the name of Anglesea to North Wildwood agreed to a non-binding referendum. It failed this past week by a 3 - 2 margin.
Mayor Patrick Rosenello didn't mind the debate. After all, the Anglesea name goes back more than a century and the word still adorns more than a few buildings.
"This was a very heavily discussed issue among the residents and second homeowners in the town," Rosenello told KYW Newsradio. "It was a very polite and positive discussion."
He appreciates the supporters of the name change opting to go the non-binding route on the ballot question:
"It really was just an opportunity for the residents to have a discussion on the history and future of their community and it was done absolutely civilly on both sides and I doubt very much that any friendships were strained over this issue."
Unlike the Presidential race, right?
