Bernie Sanders Vows To Work With Trump But 'Vigorously Oppose' Him If Necessary

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Bernie Sanders took to Facebook to make a statement on the outcome of the election, saying he and other progressives are prepared to work with Trump to improve the lives of working families in America.

But the Vermont Senator also said he and others will "vigorously oppose" Trump if he pursues racist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies.

As much of the country tried to come to terms with what has been described as Trump's "surprising" victory over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, many are wondering whether Sanders could have beat Trump if he hadn't conceded to Clinton at the Democratic National Convention back in July.

Sanders says Trump won the election by tapping "into the anger of a declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media."

Bernie's campaign had a similar theme.
