2nd Annual Veteran's Parade Kicks Off Sunday Afternoon

by Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Second Annual Philadelphia Veterans parade takes place Sunday afternoon in Center City.

About 150 veterans groups from all arms of the military will begin marching at noon around 16th and JFK.

They will come down and around City Hall and end at 6th and Market Streets, where at 12:30 an all-veteran paratrooper group will do a spectacular parachute jump and land in front of Independence Mall.

An A-10 aircraft will fly east to west, and 300 motorcycles will speed down Market Street.

When the parade ends, a festival will extend from 3rd to 5th Street on Market.

There will be a rock climbing wall, food vendors, and dozens of veterans service organizations who will have tables set up.

"We'll have tables where veterans and their families can come and learn about the kinds of benefits they may get," said Terry Williamson, president of the Philadelphia Veteran's Parade.

This is the first time they've planned a festival, which will run from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.

Organizers expect around 10,000 spectators for the family friendly event.
