City Officials Not Concerned About Latest Threat To Intimidate Philly Voters
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A right-wing website and a Donald Trump campaign adviser have targeted Philadelphia for some highly questionable election day activities. But city officials are not overly worried about the threats.
"This is not our first rodeo with this type of language."
That's City Council President Darrell Clarke's reaction to reports that the website "Right Stuff" claims to have put hidden cameras in Philadelphia schools that serve as polling places -- and is sending teams of people to disrupt voting. Clarke says he thinks it's a bluff, meant to inspire fear, that will fail.
"I don't believe they're going to come here to the city of Philadelphia, and even if they do, I would not be concerned," Clarke said. "The people at these polling places have been doing this for years. They conduct their business in a very professional manner."
The language quoted in the report is particularly offensive, referring to "ghettos" and plans to discourage voters with beer and marijuana.
Councilman Curtis Jones says he's not surprised.
"They are who we thought they were," Jones said, "and if you're mad about it, vote about it."
