Sources: Josh Huff Arrested For Allegedly Speeding With Weed, Gun

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Sources tell Eyewitness News police pulled over Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Josh Huff for allegedly speeding on the Walt Whitman bridge around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

They say the officer then arrested Huff, after discovering a 9 millimeter handgun and less than 50 grams of marijuana in his car.

It is unknown if the gun is registered and if he has a permit. The Camden County Prosecutor's office is investigating.

Huff's attorney, Fortunato Perri said his client is very upset. "Obviously, he's very disappointed with what's going on here, but again, it's early on in the situation. We really haven't had a chance to look at all the allegations."

Eyewitness News also caught up with Huff's teammate Jordan Matthews at a fan event. Matthews said he's praying for him.

"We've all made our mistakes," he said. "Josh made a mistake. Josh is not a bad person. He's definitely not a criminal. He's a great guy and he's one of my very close friends, so like I said, I'm hoping that this whole process, whatever he has to go through, can go over smoothly."

Huff, 25, was the Eagles' third-round pick in 2014 out of Oregon. He has 13 catches for 72 yards and one touchdown this season, his third. He also has a 98-yard kick return touchdown.

WIP's Ike Reese, a former Eagle himself, also weighed in on the controversy and said Huff's arrest could definitely impact the team's success moving forward.

"You're never irreplaceable as a player in this league, but it's unfortunate for Josh because like I said, especially in that department, I think he was off to the best start of his career," Reese said. "He just was named special teams player of the week and if the Eagles were to miss him for any extended period of time, we would certainly feel it."

The Eagles released a statement that reads:

"We are aware of the incident today involving Josh Huff. At this point, we are gathering more information."

Huff was released from jail after posting 10 percent of his $25,000 bail.

Several fans spoke with Eyewitness News and shared their reaction to the news.

"These guys get these contracts, forget they're still held accountable," said Tom Lahy.

Another fan said the Eagles should just move on. "I think they should cut him and move forward," said Buck Amend. Fans fell on both sides of the argument in terms of whether or not Huff should be on the field for the team's next game.

Huff is not the only Eagle to get into trouble recently. Linebacker Nigel Bradham was arrested last month on a concealed weapons charge at the Miami International Airport. Bradham was also arrested in July in connection with an alleged assault.
