Emaciated Dog Tossed Out Of Moving Vehicle In New Jersey

PATERSON, N.J. (CBS/AP) - Authorities are trying to track down the person who tossed an emaciated dog out of a moving car in New Jersey and then drove off.

Witnesses say the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Paterson. They say the driver slowed down and the passenger door opened before the Shih Tzu mix was tossed.

The 6-pound dog is being treated at an animal care facility.

Officials say the animal was initially unable to walk and smelled like fecal matter and urine. It also had matted fur that covered its eyes and prevented it from seeing. Workers at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge had to shave the little guy down before treating him.

They named him "Grant" and set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical expenses.
