Doctors From Around World Gather In Philly For Lyme Disease Conference

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Doctors from all around the country will be in Philadelphia later this week to learn more about the diagnosis and treatment of an elusive disease that affects hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Dr. Samuel Shor is President of the International Lyme and Associated Disease Society. He said thousands of doctors will attend the conference starting Friday.

"To share ideas, to learn the latest in the area of research on a number of levels by experts in the field," Shor said.

He said thousands of doctors will learn more about the disease in a variety of ways.

"And to hopefully take home pearls that will allow an improved ability to understand and manage their patients, most of whom are quite complex."

He said Lyme is difficult for doctors because it can vary so drastically from patient to patient.
