Survey Finds Americans 'Tired' Of Election Talk On Social Media
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Between defending your political views to your Facebook friends and live tweeting during all of the presidential debates it seems people are tired of talking politics (finally).
The Pew Research Center surveyed more than 4,500 people online and by mail and found that more than one-third of them are "worn out" by the amount of political content they encounter on social media platforms.
Moreover, nearly 60 percent of the survey-takers say they feel stressed out and frustrated by people who disagree with them politically when they interact with them online.
And 40 percent said they agree that social media allows people to make political comments or post political statuses they otherwise would never say in person -- some even describing the conversations as angrier, less respectful and less civil than regular online conversations.
If you're guilty of writing a few political statuses during this election cycle and you've noticed a dip in your friends list, it's very possible you have been unfriended because of your posts. According to the survey, most people just try to ignore political posts but using social media settings to either manipulate your newsfeed or block someone so you don't get their updates anymore are other options.
The good news in all of this is that it's almost over. With less than two weeks away we seem to be in the home stretch of campaign 2016.
