Weekend Box Office Report: New Films Lead The Way
By Bill Wine
Three new attractions led the way at the box office over the weekend.
Tyler Perry's debuting comedy, Boo! A Madea Halloween, finished first, earning an estimated $28-million.
In second place was the thriller sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, starring Tom Cruise. It took in $23-million.
And third was the horror-thriller prequel, Ouija: Origin of Evil, which totaled $14-million.
Just behind it, also with $14-million, was last weekend's leader, the action thriller, The Accountant.
One other new movie cracked the top ten.
The spies-next-door comedy, Keeping Up with the Joneses, with Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis, took in $6-million, good for seventh place.
Overall, industry-wide totals were solid, well ahead of last weekend as well as those of a year ago.
