Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Shore Jazz Getaway

By Jay Lloyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Jersey shore will be swinging to the sounds of jazz next month and KYW's Jay Lloyd has an early heads up preview.

If you're a jazz buff, you'll want to be in Cape May on the weekend of November 11th to 13th for a townwide jam session that draws thousands of east coast fans for the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. But why Cape May?

"They love the intimacy of the festival. A lot of the shows are in small clubs. The audience is right on top of the artists. You can walk around from bar to bar to bar."

Michael Kline is the producer who uses both large and intimate rooms to match artists to audiences and sound. And he doesn't mind doing some namedropping.

"Well, we have Wynton Marsalis. He's the headliner. Cecile McLorin Salvant who just won the Grammy award last year for best jazz album."

And the list goes on. You need an early heads up to get rooms, because the town is in bust out mode for a dynamic jazz pub crawl. Look up the Exit Zero Jazz Fest.
