Delco Native Strives To 'Survive' On Reality TV

by Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Media, Delaware County native is on this season of Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen-X.

42-year-old Gen-Xer David Wright got off to a bit of a rough start in Fiji.

"As soon as I set foot on the beach, I was just instantly paranoid," he said.

Wright has become known as the player with mix of charm, humor, and paranoia on this season of Survivor.

"I hate the outside, I don't like the sun. I don't like the ocean," he said.

Fortunately, he was able to start fire for his tribe; a move that helped turn his game around.

"I practiced fire before going out on the show and I was pretty unsuccessful at it. So it was kind of a surprise to me when I did it in kind of that clutch moment," said Wright.

He grew up in Media and now lives in L.A., working behind the scenes as a TV writer.

"I never wanted to be on TV. I don't like watching myself on TV and especially it's like, you can tell I'm not the bulkiest manliest, man," said Wright.

Players only have about a month to prepare and can't even bring toothpaste or toilet paper.

"Ultimately, when the game starts, all you have are the clothes on your back. People have been making fun of me for it, but I was fortunate that I had that blazer cause it can get cold at night," Wright said.

David can't reveal how the season plays out, so fans will have to tune in.
