Dashawn Darden Leading The Way For DelVal

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Delaware Valley University football team is enjoying another fine season.

The Aggies, who call Doylestown home, are 5-1 as they get ready for a huge Middle Atlantic Conference game on Saturday with an undefeated Stevenson University squad.

A big reason for DelVal's success is the play of sophomore quarterback Dashawn Darden. The Cardinal O'Hara product is completing 60% of his passes this season for 1,232 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has thrown just two interceptions. He is also third on the team in rushing with 247 yards. He has four touchdowns on the ground.

"I'm having a lot of fun," Darden tells KYW Newsradio. "Probably the most fun I've had since I've been playing football."

Listen to the entire interview with DelVal's Dashawn Darden:

Darden's last game was one of his best as an Aggie. In a 52-10 win over Wilkes University, Darden completed 14 of 23 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He also rushed for a team-high 79 yards and two more scores. He did all this while only playing the first three quarters of the game and the performance earned him the MAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Darden played a lot as a freshman, at first coming into games for a a limited amount of plays as the back-up and then taking over as the starter for the second half of the season. He talks about how that experience set the foundation for his success this year.

"It helped me a lot," Darden says. "Just getting in there and having a feel for the game and knowing how players play and stuff like that. Getting the timing down with the receivers. We were all young, so it helped a lot."

Darden is the latest in a long line of special quarterback talents to suit up for the Aggies. He talks about the decision to call DelVal his college home.
"Once I came here, it felt like a home," Darden says. "Coach (Duke) Greco's a great coach. He always talked to me, so he was always on me and I really liked him from the moment I first started talking to him."

The Aggies are in a three-way tie for second in the conference with a 4-1 record in MAC games. On Saturday, they will face a Stevenson team that is alone in first with a 5-0 mark (6-0 overall). So this is a big game, and they are all pretty much big games from here on out. Darden is confident his team is equal to the challenge.

"We're preparing really well each week and we're just all ready to go," Darden says.

DelVal and Stevenson will kickoff at noon on Saturday in Owings Mills, Maryland.
